Primary Program

Our Children's House program is held Monday through Friday from 8:45am to 12:00 and serves children from 3-5 years old. This program offers an environment that fosters each child’s innate desire to understand the world around him. Mixed age classrooms are designed to meet individual developmental and cognitive needs and interests. Under a teacher’s careful guidance, children select their own work. They learn to make meaningful choices and to engage in caring and purposeful interactions within their community. Concrete materials allow children to work at tasks that are naturally engaging while providing opportunities to develop concentration, coordination, order, and independence. In a Montessori environment, the child is provided with sensorial work and purposeful tasks all of which indirectly prepare the child for language and math development. As a child shows interest and readiness, these skills are presented in a way that attract him and capitalize on his innate love of learning. Cultural studies offer the child an understanding of the interconnectedness of our world. Studies of natural history inspire the child to explore the natural world around him.

Children remain in the same classroom for all three years with the same peer group. Once the child has completed two years in Primary and has turned five years, the child may be eligible for Kindergarten curriculum. Children in our Primary program must be completely toilet trained by the first day of school. Hours for Kindergarten are Monday through Friday, 8:45 am to 2:30 pm.
